    Airborne High Spectral Resolution Lidar Measurements of Aerosol Distributions and Properties The NASA Langley Research Center airborne High Spectral Resolution Lidars, HSRL-1, HSRL 2 and DIAL/HSRL measured the temporal, spatial, and vertical variability of aerosol optical properties during recent NASA field missions.  These lidars measure aerosol extinction and optical thickness using the HSRL technique as well as aerosol backscatter and depolarization.  Additional data products include aerosol type, mixed layer height, and in the case of HSRL-2, profiles of aerosol concentration and effective radius. This presentation will describe how these measurements are being used to study air quality, evaluate and understand aerosol models, and assess satellite aerosol measurements.
