Research. Education. Outreach.

The Center for Atmospheric Sciences (CAS), in the Department of Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences at Hampton University (HU), has a three-fold focus on closely related objectives: fundamental research; education at the graduate and undergraduate levels; and outreach to the public, university, and K-12 communities. The specific goals of CAS are:

(1) To establish a nationally recognized center of excellence in atmospheric and space sciences at HU to enhance and complement the work being done by relevant federal agencies (NASA, NOAA, NSF and DOD).

(2) To conduct fundamental research in atmospheric science spanning multiple disciplines including: fluid dynamics and numerical modeling, chemistry and air quality, radiation and aerosols, wind energy, and remote sensing instrument development and analysis

(3) To provide HU students with state-of-the-art curriculum that leads to advanced degrees in atmospheric science and practical job training that leads to successful careers in this field.

(4)To establish innovative approaches for educational and public outreach.
