SWRC Forecast Products are based on the assimilation of combined Polar Hyper-spectral Sounding and Advanced Baseline Imager (PHSnABI) water vapor & temperature retrievals into GSI-WRF-based Numerical Weather Prediction system. The system uses NOAA RAP-configured WRF for 4-km resolution forecasts, with data assimilation performed by the NOAA operational Grid-point Statistical Interpolation (GSI) system.
The system runs continuously by performing a 2-hour analysis cycle (to spin up model variables). This analysis then serves as the initial condition for the forecast cycle. The boundary condition provided by NOAA RAP13km for both cycles. Forecasts are generated every 2 even hours, and the length of the forecast is 18 hours.
